Classic Engineering 10800 Boring Jig Kit Review

Dozens of doors--it never fails. Handles all common backsets and diameters.
Do order the smaller-diameter spade bits for the edge bore. The standard 1" is a bit large for some lock fronts. 15/16" and 7/8" are available from boringjigs.com, Classic Engineering's website. Also available: carbide bits for cross boring.
The bits are actually driven by the drill via a quick disconnect adapter. You chuck up the adapter and then hook up to the bits, both of which have to mounted into the jig before you mount the jig onto the door. Get the adapter with the 1/2" shaft. The 3/8" shaft can do the job but there is a lot of torque cutting a 2-1/8" lock bore and the 3/8" adapter shaft can bend. The 1/2" adapter shaft is very stout.
This device works from the edge and one side. You don't have to bore from both sides of the door. Also, bore the edge bore to full depth first. That way there is less material for the 2-1/8" bit to remove and it goes faster.
I like to use my 1/2" Milwaukee Hole-Hawg drill. The two speeds and excellent power really go. High speed for the edge bore, low for the cross bore.

I received this item today and no adjusting tool was included as indicated it would be nor did it come with any instructions on how to adjust these hinges. The picture shown looks nothing like the actual product that I received and I can't help but wonder how you adjust these things. Be forwarned that the actual hinge part of this item is twice as wide and one third longer than what is shown in the picture.

Global CP3535-7B-M Full Mortise Plain Bearing Hinge, 2-Pack, Ebony Black Review

What can I say. There isn't much that can be said except that these are heavy duty hinges. Not at all flimsy. You can hang solid wood doors, metal doors, etc and not worry that the hinges will fail. I used them for doors to the furnace room and they are a bit of overkill but I was tired of lighter hinges that constantly failed and allowed these doors to droop all of the time. These hinges will be there long after the doors have turned to dust.

Milescraft 1215 Strike Door Plate Mortising Kit Review

Just finished using this kit on 11 doors and in general it worked great.A few minor things to point out.First, the router bit that was included with mine was dull and burned a lot.Had to changed to another router bit and then no problems.The nails that are included also leaves a little to be desired.Recommend that Milescraft include extra nails.Also, the plastic inserts are easy to pop out.Hold on to them when you are removing the kit from the door.

Main problem that I had was that the kit will not fit a jamb that has the casing already installed.I had to use an alternative method to mortise the strike plate.The thickness cams are too thick and will not allow the kit to sit flat on the jamb.

The kit does a great job of positioning to the center of a door.I tried a Porter Cable kit and it WILL NOT center on the door - stay away from this one.

This kit came close to a 5-star.

Porter-Cable 59381 Hinge Butt Template Kit Review

I recently took delivery of this hinge template and am very happy with it's performance. I couldn't decide which template to buy - this one or the Bosch - and went with this one when I found out that Bosch won't work with other brand routers.
Set-up of this template is very easy once you become familar with the components. I have been struggling with the ABS Porter Cable hinge template (around $20). This works fine for the occasional door, but this template is a huge timesaver. First, it allows you to cut all hinge mortises with one set-up - no more moving the template for each hinge, measuring and re-measuring etc. Secondly, the template transfers directly from door to jamb and vice-versa, meaning a perfect match every time.
The only weak points are that the included but is high-speed steel rather that carbide tipped, and that the included guide bushing will cut mortises for 1/4" radius hinges only. Other radii require an additional guide bushing and bit. It would also be helpful if the thickness (height) of this template was the same as the ABS Porter Cable latch mortise template so that you could use both templates without changing your router set-up.
Overall, I definitely recommend this tool for anyone hanging more than an occasional door.
